ANGER

What is anger? How do i deal with it?

People often get angry. it is an emotion we experience as a result of frustration or being treated unfairly. Although it is a negative emotion it can be seen as a positive as being angry often inspires us to take another path in life or to help us identify our problems.

Being angry does not mean you have a mental illness. There is a certain point at which anger becomes a problem. Being angry becomes an issue when we release it in a destructive or un helpful manner / when our anger begins to have a negative impact on our over all health & wellbeing.

As individuals we must be able to deal and cope with our feelings such as aggression. We also must learn how to express them:

Outward Aggression & Violence: Shouting, swearing, slamming doors, hitting things, throwing things. Being physically and verbally abusive to your surrounding and those around you. People feel threathened in this environment.

Inward Aggression: Telling yourself horrible thoughts. "I hate myself". Denying yourself necessities as you feel you need to punish yourself; not eating, not sleeping, other things that make you happy. Often includes turning to self harm.

Non-Violent or Passive Aggression: Beginning to ignore your surroundings. Ignoring people, refusing to speak to people, refusal to o particular tasks, being late or doing things at the last possible minute. People can also be sarcastic or sulky while not being visibly angry or aggressive.

Outward aggression and violence is extremely frightening to those in your company, especially children. People can incur serious consequences from anger; you may loose your job or get involved with the police as a result of your actions. In this case you must get support. As we are not all outwardly violent, people still recognise our angry behaviours when around you and begin to feel they are a problem to you, almost a nuisance. This can end in people distancing themselves from you as they feel unwanted.

Anger is seldom without reason, but often without a good one.

- Benjamin Franklin

Anger doesn't solve anything, It builds nothing, but it can destroy everything.
